Available medicine options
In the UK, there are two types of emergency hormonal contraception (EHC) available without a prescription: Levonelle One-Step and EllaOne. Levonelle one-stop is most effective when taken within 72 hours (three days) after unprotected sex. EllaOne offers a slightly longer window and should be taken within 120 hours (five days) following unprotected intercourse to help prevent pregnancy.
Emergency Contraception Pill
Morning-after pill is an emergency hormonal contraceptive pill which can be taken to follow to avoid unwanted pregnancy. At Eastwood Health Pharmacy, we offer contraception services to women aged 16 and over. To access this service, you'll need to have a consultation with one of our pharmacists. We’ll have a private chat in a quiet space where you can talk things through with one of our pharmacists. They’ll explain your options clearly, answer any questions, and if it’s the right choice, provide the medication there and then. Emergency contraception is most effective when taken early, so the quicker you act, the better. All our pharmacists are trained, DBS-checked, and follow NHS guidance to make sure you’re looked after properly.
